Overview

This course introduces the Vilambit Teentaal with the Bada Khayal in Bihag set to this slow paced 16 beat cycle. A Dhrupad in Bihag follows this. Raga Jaunpuri Chhota Khayal Bandish is learnt with a reference to how this Raga differs from Asavari that was learnt earlier. A comparative study of Des and Tilak Kamod is done and Tilak Kamod can be revisited. Theory: The Nom Tom Alap in Bihag leads to the comparison of the phrases of Alap in instrumental music and the Rudra Veena that is one of the most ancient stringed instruments known in Hindustani classical music. Starting with the fact that some schools of music do not sing Asavari with Shuddha Rishabh at all, but only Komal Rishabh Asavari, which they call Asavari, the concept of the Gharana system is introduced and its relevance today. An appreciation of Gharana traditions will form the theme of research and inquiry
